Dr. Michael Lam

Dr. Michael Lam completed his undergraduate studies at McMaster University in 2000, majoring in biochemistry. He then went to Optometry school in Philadelphia and obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from Salus University (Pennsylvania College of Optometry) in 2005. During his studies, Dr. Lam received several awards and scholarships including the E. F. Wildermuth Scholarship Award.

Dr. Lam then completed five externship programs in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia including West Penn Allegheny Hospital and Mercy Hospital. During these externship programs, while working alongside a variety of different Ophthalmologists that are specialists in the area of the Cornea, Retina, Cataracts, Strabismus, Oculoplastics and Glaucoma, Dr. Lam received extensive training in the treatment and management of eye diseases.

He is board certified by the Canadian Examiners in Optometry and holds a license to use therapeutics to treat eye disease. In the United States, he is accredited by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO), as well as the Treatment and Management of Ocular Diseases (TMOD). In addition, he has been registered and licensed as an Optometrist in the State of Pennsylvania, USA with Therapeutics and Glaucoma treatment privileges. Furthermore, Dr. Lam is a member of the prestigious Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), and the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO).

Dr. Lam has been providing eye care services in the Durham area since 2005. His primary areas of interest are diagnosis and treatment of eye disease, contact lenses, cataract and laser refractive surgery co-management. He enjoys providing complete family eye care, sees patients of all ages, and recommends having their children's eyes examined by 6 months.
